No one was injured when a vacant home in Westfield caught fire and exploded on Monday night, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Tudor Circle around 10:15 p.m. and found the multi-story home burning as well as evidence there had been an explosion due to debris scattered around the area, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sawicki said.
Neighboring homes were evacuated as firefighters began extinguishing the fire.
The fire was brought under control around 11:40 p.m.
Neighbors told abc7ny.com the home had been unoccupied for at least 15 years.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Sawicki said.
The Westfield Fire Department reminds homeowners that smoke alarms should be less than 10 years old and tested monthly.
